HISTORY: Johnny Murphy was a notable boxer and trainer. Born in the United Kingdom on February 22, 1864 Murphy made his debut as a professional fighter in 1884 as a bantamweight. He fought until 1899 and took on some of the greats in the division including George Dixon, Ike Weir, Torpedo Billy Murphy, Billy Plimmer and Pedlar Palmer. Murphy served as a second to Jake Kilrain in his famous bare knuckle championship fight with John L. Sullivan. Murphy also served as a trainer and teacher of boxing and was known as Professor Johnny Murphy by many. Offered here is an exceedingly rare, original, business card of Johnny Murphy as a trainer which offers, "Good for One Lesson in Boxing."
