HISTORY: Muhammad Ali was born on January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. He won the World Heavyweight Title from Sonny Liston on February 25, 1964. He announced his retirement in February of 1970 but was back in the ring later that October. He won the NABF Heavyweight Title On July 26, 1971 in a bout with Jimmy Ellis. He regained the World Heavyweight Title when he fought George Foreman in Zaire on October 30, 1974. He retired after losing to Trevor Berbick on December 11, 1981 with a final record of 56-5 with 37 KO's.
Offered here are training shoes used by Muhammad Ali in the 1970's. These shoes come from the collection of his former assistant trainer Wali Muhammad (formerly Walter Youngblood) who served Ali from 1971 until his final fight. These come with a letter of authenticity from the daughter of Wali Muhammad, Daria Muhammad.
FULL DESCRIPTION: These are high ankle, white leather boxing shoes which include a manufacturer's label and stamp for PONY. The labels are attached to the tongues with the stamps at the high, outside ankle. Include the original white laces. The shoes are well worn with heavy wear at the bottoms and scuffing consistent with use. Each shoe is marked inside in the hand of Wali Muhammad, ALI. The shoes are size 13. Circa 1970's.
The shoes were sourced from the collection of Wali Muhammad from his daughter Daria Muhammad who has provided a letter. Investigation revealed that Muhammad Ali did wear size 13 boxing shoes and used high ankle leather style. An investigation was also made of PONY. The PONY brand has a strong heritage in boxing, endorsing Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, and Leon Spinks.
These well worn boxing shoes are the first training used shoes of Muhammad Ali we have offered.
