Henry Armstrong was the first man to hold three World Titles at the same time. He accomplished this in 1938 when he defeated Lou Ambers to win the World Lightweight Title. He had previously defeated Petey Sarron in 1937 to win the World Featherweight Title and Barney Ross in 1938 to win the World Welterweight Title. A deeply religious man, he had his autobiography published in 1956 entitled, Gloves, Glory and God. Presented here is an original wire photo dated February 4, 1938 picturing Henry Armstrong, singer-actor Al Jolson and Armstrong manager Eddie Mead. Jolson and Mead were involved in a disagreement over Jolson purchasing Armstrong's management rights.
This is an original Associated Press wire photo with their stamp and caption on the back. Bold, clear image. Has a mild crease. No tears. Clean front and back. 7" x 9."
