On September 17, 1951 at the War Memorial in Syracuse, New York future world champion Carmen Basilio fought Shamus McCray, a late replacement for Johnny Cessario. Basilio scored a win by 8 round decision. Also on the show local heavyweight favorite Mike DeJohn knocked out Sonny Parker in the 1st round and middleweight Joey DeJohn scored a 2nd round knockout over Lee Sala in a middleweight bout.
