HISTORY: 1992 was an eventful year for Riddick Bowe. He started the year with victories over Conroy Nelson and Everett Martin setting up a WBA title elimination bout with Pierre Coetzer. Bowe stopped Coetzer in the 7th round putting him in line for a title shot against world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield. On November 13, 1992 Bowe and Holyfield met in what became one of the classic battles in boxing history. Bowe won a unanimous 12 round decision to emerge as the undisputed and unified world heavyweight champion. As a result the Boxing Writers' Association of America awarded Bowe the prestigious Edward Neil Award for outstanding service to boxing for the year 1992.
