On July 2, 1921 World Heavyweight Champion Jack Dempsey defended his title against the noted French fighter, Georges Carpentier at Boyles Thirty Acres in Jersey City, New Jersey. This was under the promotion of Tex Rickard and became the first million dollar gate in boxing history. Dempsey stopped Carpentier in the fourth round of an exciting hard fought battle proving to be too strong for the game Carpentier. Presented here is an original wirephoto of Dempsey prior to the bout.
This photo measures 6 1/4 inches by 9 1/2 inches. The Photo has a small tear in the upper right corner. There are some ink marks and small scuff marks on the left side. The back has an ink stamp and writing in pencel, the image is vivid.
