Regular price $800.00
On July 4, 1910 Jack Johnson successfully defended his heavyweight title against Jim Jeffries, the former champion. Jeffries had retired undefeated champion after his last fight in 1904. Encouraged greatly by a racist public eager to get rid of Jack Johnson, Jeffries agreed to fight Johnson, but age and an almost six year lay-off, coupled with Johnson's great skill and youth proved to be too much. Jeffries was easily defeated in a one sided match. Presented here is an original advertising card entitled "Pick The Winner" which was used by the Goodrich Hotel in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The card opens on both sides. Close it on one and the image of Jack Johnson appears. Close it on the other and an image of Jim Jeffries appears. Circa 1910.
This is a 3 panel advertising card. Bold color and print. Some soiling from handling. Slight separation at seams. Not creased or torn. Minor corner wear. 3 1/2" x 6" when closed. Rare, the only we have seen.
