HISTORY: On May 8, 1971 at Stade Louis II in Monte Carlo, Monaco world middleweight champion Carlos Monzon defended his title against former champion Nino Benvenuti. Monzon dominated and stopped Benvenuti in the 3rd round. Benvenuti's manager threw in towel. Benvenuti was knocked down once in the 2nd and again in the 3rd. The towel was thrown in after he rose from the 2nd knockdown.
Offered here is an original wire photo which depicts Carlos Monzon and Oscar Bonavena arriving in Monaco for this fight on April 29, 1971. Bonavena and Monzon were both from Argentina and Bonavena came in support of his countryman.
