HISTORY: Steve O'Donnell was an Australian born heavyweight. Born in Sydney on April 20, 1866 O'Donnell began his career in 1886 and fought until 1904. O'Donnell was a master boxer - an excellent technician who was clever, moved well, possessed a good jab and wonderful science; His arms were long and muscular yet he was not a power hitter During his career, he fought for the Heavyweight Championships of Australia and the World (when it was thought Corbett was retiring) and a Middleweight Championship; He was in the ring with the very best fighters of his day - Peter Jackson, Bob Fitzsimmons, Jim Hall, Mick Dooley, Frank "Paddy" Slavin, Charlie Mitchell, Peter Maher, Jake Kilrain, George Godfrey, Joe Choynski, Charles "Kid" McCoy, Gus Ruhlin, and Jim Corbett Corbett thought so highly of O'Donnell's skills that he used him as a sparring partner.
