O'DONNELL, STEVE-PETER MAHER PRESS PASS & COUPON (1895)

On November 11, 1895 at the Empire Athletic Club in Maspeth, New York heavyweights Steve O'Donnell and Peter Maher met in a fight billed as for the heavyweight title. The fight was originally scheduled for November 1st in Dallas, Texas, but was moved. O'Donnell prevailed knocking Maher out in the very first round. For the heavyweight championship as awarded by Jim Corbett on his "retirement" Freeman's Journal and Daily Commercial Advertiser (Dublin, Ireland), Thursday, November 21, 1895. Offered here is an original press pass and press coupon for this event which was used to gain admittance to the arena.
Original press pass and press coupon. Glue residue on back. The pass is not creased and is numbered. 2 1/2" diameter. The coupon names the fighters and date. Bold color and print. One hole punch. Minor stain on front. Stub firmly attached. 1 1/4" x 2."
