On June 8, 1968 at the Arena in Mexico City, Mexico future bantamweight champion Ruben Olivares fought Octavio "Famoso" Gomez in the main event. Olivares continued his march to the title stopping Gomez in the 5th round. On the undercard aging former world lightweight champion Joe Brown was stopped in the 4th round by future world lightweight champion Chango Carmona.
