HISTORY: On September 19, 1941 at Madison Square Garden in New York lightweights Sugar Ray Robinson and Maxie Shapiro fought in an important divisional bout. Robinson stopped Shapiro in the third round. Shapiro was down twice in the 2nd and twice in the 3rd round before the referee, Arthur Donovan, stopped it. Offered here is a scarce original wire photo from this fight depicting Shapiro down in the ropes shortly before referee Donovan called a halt to the action.
