On September 12, 1951 at the Polo Grounds in New York middleweight champion Randy Turpin made his first title defense against the man he won the title from in July, 1951, Sugar Ray Robinson. Robinson, in front of a crowd of 61, 437 fans shwed the great talents that had made him a winner at every level of the sport and stopped Turpin in the 10th round. Referee Ruby Goldstein called a halt to the action after a virtually helpless Turpin arose from a a solid combination by Robinson. Offered here is a very rare on site poster to this event.
This on site poster is cardboard and pictures both fighters. It has mounted on linen backing for further protection. Has a mild center crease. There has been some restoration, primarily to the edges and the poster has been professionally cleaned. The images and print remain bold. Edge and corner wear. 22" x 27 1/2." An exceptionally rare Robinson poster celebrating his winning of the middleweight title. The only known on poster to this event we have seen or handled.
