Young Stribling was born on Dec. 26, 1904 in Bainbridge, Georgia. He fought as a heavyweight during the 1920's and early 1930's. His first fight was on January 17, 1921. During his career he fought Mike McTigue, Tommy Loughran, Battling Levinsky, Maxie Rosenbloom, Jack Sharkey, Primo Carnera and Max Schmeling. His last fight was on September 22, 1933 a ten round decision over Maxie Rosenbloom. 11 days later "The King Of The Canebrakes" was dead. He died October 3, 1933, after a motorcycle/automobile accident when he was just 28. The accident occurred October 1 outside of Macon, Georgia. Offered here is an original wire photo of Young Stribling taken on February 11, 1929 at his Miami Beach training camp while preparing for an upcoming fight with Jack Sharkey. Stribling is pictured with his wife, son and mother.
