HISTORY: On September 7, 1892 at the Olympic Club in New Orleans, Louisiana, James J. Corbett won the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship by knocking out John L. Sullivan in the 21st round. Corbett's new scientific boxing technique enabled him to dodge Sullivan's rushing attacks, and wear him down with jabs. This was the first gloved contest for the heavyweight championship. Offered here is are original signatures of John L. Sullivan and James J. Corbett which have been framed into a display. Both are authenticated by Beckett.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an original framed display which consists of cut autographs of John L. Sullivan and James J. Corbett, photos of both and a name plate. The large, 3 1/2" x 6" cut signature of Sullivan is signed in fountain pen, "Yours Truly John L. Sullivan March 20th 1908." The large, 2 1/2" x 6" cut signature of Corbett is signed in fountain pen, "Yours truly Jas J Corbett Aug 10/94," signed as world heavyweight champion. Clean. Not creased. Professionally framed to 17" x 17." Authenticated by Beckett with their cert # AC29211.
