Jem Verrall was a British lightweight who had a brief career begiinning on December 15, 1889 and ending a year and a half later. He amassed a record of 4-2 over that span. On January 26, 1891 he fought Sam Blakerock at the Ormonde Club in London which historians believe was possibly for the British lightweight title. Verrall knocked Blakerock out in the 18th round. On June 16, 1891 for the British lightweight title he fought Austin Gibbons at the New Pelican Club Gym in London and was stopped in the 4th round. Verrall retired after this match. Offered here is a very rare boxing silk for Jem Verrall.
This boxing silk has the name Jem Verrall at center with the year 1891 and was likely a souvenir for one of his important fights that year involving the British lightweight title. His colors are in the corners and the perimeter is dressed with horseshoes. One small color stain at right center. Color is bold on the silk fabric. Has original creases. Not ripped or torn. Clean. Approximately 33" x 33."
