Bartholomew "Bat" Mullins was born in either 1848 or 1849 in Cork, Ireland. He fought as a featherweight and lightweight with his first fight in May, 1867. He fought a 43 round draw (although some accounts give him a win) with the notable Arthur Chambers in 1869. Some record books credit him with seven wins, others 13 and still others 17 against one loss. He claimed to be the British Lightweight Champion. He died in Chelsea, England in 1914. Offered here is an original, first generation, albumen, mounted photograph of Bat Mullins.
This is an original, first generation, photograph on an ornate mount. Photographer's stamp on mount for John Wood of New York. Mullins in full fight pose as he looked at the height of his career. Photo has foxing across the top. Not creased or torn. Some damage to the mount not affecting the photograph. 7 1/4" x 9 3/4" photograph on a mount of 11" x 14." Extremely rare especially in this size.
