SCHUYLER, ED SIGNED BOXING HALL OF FAME FIRST DAY COVER

Ed Schuyler. Born March 14, 1935 in Bloomsburg, PA. Schuyler began working for the Associated Press (AP) in June 1960 and covered his first boxing match – Rubin Carter vs. Farid Salim - for the AP in September 1963. He transferred from the Pittsburgh offices to the New York sports staff in 1965. From 1970 until his retirement in 2002, he was the AP’s national boxing writer. “Fast Eddie” has covered some of boxing’s historic battles, including “The Fight of the Century” between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier on March 8, 1971, Ali vs. Frazier II and III, Ali vs. Foreman, Holmes vs. Norton, Holmes vs. Cooney, Holmes vs. Spinks I and II, Tyson vs. Spinks, Douglas vs. Tyson, Foreman vs. Moorer and the series of bouts between Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran and Thomas Hearns in the 1980s. Schuyler also reported on the fistic action at the Olympic Games from 1976 through 2000 and covered fights in 18 foreign countries and Puerto Rico. In 1979 he was awarded the Nat Fleischer Award for Excellence in Boxing Journalism from the Boxing Writers Association of America.
