DEMPSEY, JACK-GENE TUNNEY I RING ROPE (1926)

HISTORY: On September 23, 1926 at Sesquicentennial Stadium in Philadelphia in front of a crowd of 120,557 Jack Dempsey defended his heavyweight tile against Gene Tunney. Tunney, the better boxer, avoided the powerful blows of Dempsey and won a unanimous ten round decision and the title. Offered here is a very rare souvenir piece of ring rope used for this fight.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an original, 4" long piece of ring rope used for the Dempsey-Tunney I fight. It is attached to a card from Hoffman Crown Manufacturing Company who made the rope for the fight. The card pictures Dempsey and Tunney in full fight poses. The rope is clean and intact. The card has corner wear, a stain in upper right corner and a crease in upper left corner. Card measures 2 3/8" x 4 3/4." Rare.
