HISTORY: Heavyweight Champion James J. Corbett fought Bob Fitzsimmons on March 17, 1897 in Carson City, Nevada. This was a much anticipated fight which had been previously postponed. Fitzsimmons knocked Corbett out in the 14th round with a famous punch to the solar plexus to win the Heavyweight Championship of the World. Offered here is a very scarce Police Gazette dated April 3, 1897 which features full coverage of the fight and post fight.
