HISTORY: Arthur Mercante was born on January 27, 1920. He refereed many fights including Ali-Frazier I, Ali-Patterson II and others. He refereed over 100 world title fights and was the first active modern day referee to enter the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is the original 1983 Timex-Guantes Award given to Arthur Mercante. It consists of a plaque on a wooden base. The plaque is engraved, "TIMEX-GUANTES 1983 AWARD HONORING ARTHUR MERCANTE INT. REFEREE OF THE YEAR FOR CONTINUED SUPPORT TO THE SPORT OF BOXING NEW YORK CITY DECEMBER 5TH, 1983." Minor surface wear to the wood portion. Clean. 9" x 12."
