JO Sports Inc.

Regular price $5,000.00

HISTORY: On May 23, 1985 at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany, New York future world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson fought Don Halpin in the featured match. This was Tyson's 3rd professional bout. He knocked Halpin out in the 4th round. At 212 lbs., Tyson was fighting at the lightest weight of his professional career. Halpin entered having lost his three previous bouts by knockout. Tyson entered having won both of his previous fights by first-round knockout. It was the last Tyson fight to be scheduled for four rounds. Ticket prices for the event were $10, $12, and $15. Tyson fought more patiently than in his previous two bouts as it appeared he had been instructed to take his time, get in rounds, and work on his technique. He worked primarily to the body in the opening round. Halpin mostly worked behind a jab and connected with a left hook as the round ended. Tyson continued to bang away with power shots in Round 2. A left uppercut hurt Halpin at 1:14 and caused him to take a few steps backward. Tyson landed several more shots in the round that snapped back Halpin's head. Tyson fought often in the southpaw stance in Round 3. A left hook followed by a right hand at 1:41 hurt Halpin and sent him back into the ropes. Halpin came out in Round 4 in the southpaw stance, before quickly switching back to orthodox. A left hook followed by a right hand sent Halpin back into the ropes and down to all fours 39 seconds into the round. He made it to his feet at the count of six. Tyson charged forward and connected with a left-right combination that sent Halpin heavily into the ropes and down again. Tyson connected with a big right uppercut as Halpin went down (or was already down) that snapped back his head sharply and broke his nose. The referee grabbed Tyson's right arm just before he threw another punch as Halpin was down. Halpin rolled over on his stomach but was in no shape to continue. Without beginning a count, the referee waved an end to the bout as a member of Halpin's corner was up and reaching into the ring checking on their fighter.
