On November 1, 1963 at Madison Square Garden in New York middleweights Florentino Fernandez and Juan "Rocky" Rivero fought in the main event. Rivero won a close ten round decision after knocking Fernandez down in the 8th round. On the undercard future lightweight champion Carlos "Tao" cruz lost a ten round decision to Vicente Derado.
