On April 25, 1899 at the Lenox Athletic Club in New York middleweights Barbados Joe Walcott and Dan Creedon met in the featured match. Walcott knocked Creedon out in the very first round. Offered here are the actual fight worn gloves worn by Dan Creedon in this fight. From the collection of trainer Jimmy DeForest and still have the placard identifying the gloves.
These are brown leather, horsehair boxing gloves. Approximately 3-4 ounces. Much of the leather has been lost exposing the horsehair interior. Partial laces still present. No manufacturer's label. Approximately 10 inches long. From the Jimmy DeForest collection which we accessed over twenty years ago. Still has the DeForest cardboard placard which has written on it in ink, "GLOVES WORN BY DAN CREEDON vs JOE WALCOTT "BARBADOS DEMON" SCORED 1 ROUND KO APRIL 25th 1899."
