On September 29, 1977 at New York's Madison Square Garden, Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali defended his title against tough challenger Earnie Shavers. Ali won a close 15 round decision. Ali was wobbled in the 2nd and 14th rounds, but had enough to survive. The fight was a huge financial success. The Garden was sold out and NBC which televised it live had incredible ratings, a tribute to Ali's drawing power. Presented here is an original large format photograph of Ali, Shavers and Bundini Brown by photographer Gardiner Smyth McMullan.
