On April 24, 1953 at the famed Boston Garden lightweight champion Jimmy Carter defended his title against Tommy Collins, a local favorite. Carter stopped Collins in the 9th round in defense of his crown. Collins, moving up in weight, took a beating from Carter touching the canvas no less than ten times in front of a stunned hometown crowd. Collins cornermen entered the ring to stop the fight. Offered here is an original wire photoshowing the two fighters at the end of the bout.
