Muhammad Ali was born on January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. He won the World Heavyweight Title from Sonny Liston on February 25, 1964. He announced his retirement in February of 1970 but was back in the ring later that October. He won the NABF Heavyweight Title On July 26, 1971 in a bout with Jimmy Ellis. He regained the World Heavyweight Title when he fought George Foreman in Zaire on October 30, 1974. He retired after losing to Trevor Berbick on December 11, 1981 with a final record of 56-5 with 37 KO's. Presented here is a boxing glove which was signed by Cassius Clay in 1963 while he trained at the 5th Street Gym in Miami Beach. The collector who procured this signature also got light heavyweight champion Willie Pastrano on a separate identical glove while he trained at the 5th Street Gym. Both fighters were trained by Angelo Dundee. From the collection of collector Sam Alex.
This is a maroon color, leather boxing glove made by Goldsmith with their stamp at the wrist. Left hand glove. Boldly signed in ink, "From Cassius Clay 19-63." The collector added at top of backhand, "5th Street Gym." Signed on backhand. Clean with no noticeable flaws. 10" long.
