HAUGEN, GREG-MIGUEL SANTANA ON SITE POSTER (1988)

JO Sports, Inc.

Regular price $275.00

HISTORY: On April 11, 1988 at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington IBF Lightweight Champion Greg Haugen defended his title against Miguel Santana. The fight was stopped after the 11th round due to a cut from a headbutt. Haugen was awarded a technical decision.

Greg Haugen beat Miguel Santana by a technical decision in eleven rounds for the IBF world Lightweight title. It was a controversial decision, as Santana had originally been announced as the winner, and one of the judges then said he had voted incorrectly, giving Haugen the fight.

Santana and his representants hired an investigator and, in an unprecedented move, 18 years later, the IBF decided to recognize Santana as a former IBF world Lightweight champion, giving him an IBF belt and the distinction of being the champion who awaited the longest in boxing history to find out he had actually won a world title.
