HISTORY: On January 12,1996 Roy Jones Jr. met Merqui Sosa in a Light Heavyweight bout, Jones Jr. would win the bout by TKO in the second round. There was a contracted weight limit of 172 pounds. Sosa was the NABF light heavyweight champion, but his title was not on the line. Jones, the IBF super middleweight champion, was fighting for the first time above 168 pounds. Jones earned $2 million and Sosa got $350,000. There was a crowd of 11,484. Jones dropped Sosa in the second round with a right. Referee Ken Zimmer stopped the fight at 2:36 of the second round with Sosa on the ropes and Jones firing answered combinations. Sosa, angry that the fight was stopped, pushed Zimmer into the ropes. Jones landed 70 punches, while Sosa landed only 29. Presented here is a full ticket.
