On December 5, 1947 at Madison Square Garden in New York heavyweight champion Joe Louis defended his title against tough challenger Jersey Joe Walcott. Louis won a very close and highly controversial 15 round split decision. Louis was down in 1st and 4th rounds and struggled throughout. Offered here is an original wire photo depicting Walcott down in the 13th round from a slip.
