HISTORY: On November 10, 2001 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco WBC Super Featherweight champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr. fought Jesus Chavez in the main event. Mayweather, Jr. remained undefeated stopping Chavez in the 9th round. Mayweather earned $1.6 million. Chavez was the No. 1 WBC super featherweight contender. Chavez's trainer, Ronnie Shields, stopped the fight after the ninth round. Shields told his fighter: "You're getting hit too much now." HBO's unofficial judge Harold Lederman had Mayweather ahead 86-85 at the time of the stoppage. Mayweather landed 197 of 456 punches (43%) and Chavez landed 182 of 925 (20%).
