RICKARD, TEX SIGNED STOCK CERTIFICATE (1908)

HISTORY: George Lewis "Tex" Rickard (January 2, 1870 – January 6, 1929) was an American boxing promoter, founder of the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL), and builder of the third incarnation of Madison Square Garden in New York City. During the 1920s, Tex Rickard was the leading promoter of the day, and he has been compared to P. T. Barnum and Don King. Sports journalist Frank Deford has written that Rickard "first recognized the potential of the star system."[1] Rickard also operated several saloons, hotels, and casinos, all named Northern and located in Alaska, Nevada, and Canada. Offered here is a rare United Ely Copper Company of Goldfield, Nevada stock certificate which has been signed by company President G.L. (Tex) Rickard and which dates to October 26, 1908.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This a numbered (173) 1,000 share stock certificate with company seal at lower right and bold signature at lower left of G.L. Rickard. One tack hole at top border. Has a center crease. Clean. 5 1/2" x 10." Exceptionally rare and early stock certificate from a company located at the scene of the famous Gans-Nelson fight.
