Bill Squires was born on June 25, 1879 in Narrabri, New South Wales, Australia. He fought as a heavyweight and started his career with a knockout win over Bill Costello on April 3, 1902. In 1907 and 1908 Squires challenged heavyweight champion Tommy Burns on three different occasions, but was stopped each time. Other notable fights in his career included Bill Lang (4 times), Jack "Twin" Sullivan, "Fireman" Jim Flynn and Jem Roche. He retired after being stopped by Dave Smith on December 26, 1916 with a final record of 20-11. Presented here is a photo postcard of Billy Squires as he looked at the height of his career.
