On January 22, 1969 at Madison Square Garden in New York light heavyweight champion Bob Foster defended his title against tough Frankie DePaula, a local fan favorite from Jersey City, New Jersey. Foster stopped DePaula in the very first round. Foster was down once, before flooring DePaula three times, which triggered the three knockdown rule.
