HISTORY: After graduating from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1941,Bill Gallo took a job at the New York Daily News as a copyboy. Service in World War II interrupted his on-the-job training and Gallo joined the Marines in 1942. Gallo saw combat at four major battles in the Pacific Theater, including Iwo Jima. After the war, he returned to the Daily News as an apprentice in the art department. At this time he also studied at Cartoonists and Illustrators School and later at Columbia University. Gallo became sports cartoonist at the Daily News in 1960 and his cartoons and columns have entertained and informed millions of readers since. With his innate ability to translate the drama and glory of sport through art, Gallo is one of the most respected journalists in the business. Gallo has been awarded by the Boxing Writers Association of America with the James J. Walker and A.J. Liebling Awards for his boxing columns and was elected into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 2001.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an original, Official American League baseball which has been signed by artist Bill Gallo twice and on which he has included his artwork of baseball great Ted Williams. Boldly signed in ink on the sweet spot, "Bill Gallo," and on a panel, "Big Ted Williams by Bill Gallo," adjacent to his drawing of Ted Williams. The ball is clean with no noticeable flaws. The signatures and drawing are in bold ink.
