Forrest won a unanimous 12 round decision and the title. Mosley suffered a cut at the hairline from an accidental clash of heads in round two. Mosley was down twice in the second round. Vernon Forrest wins the vacant The Ring Magazine welterweight championship of the world. On the undercard in a junior welterweight clash Arturo Gatti stopped Terron Millett in the 4th round
