HISTORY: On March 2, 1977 at Madison Square Garden in New York heavyweights Scott LeDoux and Pedro Soto met in the featured bout. LeDoux won a close, ten round, split decision. "On Wednesday night, Scott LeDoux stood in his corner awaiting with suspicion the official decision of his 10 round fight against Pedro Soto at MSG. After a slow start, LeDoux knew he had finished strongly enough to warrant the victory. Soto appeared on his way to an easy victory, but, as is his custom, tired in the last four rounds and was unable to maintain his early advantage. At that point, LeDoux stepped up his attack and nearly knocked out his 20 year old Puerto Rican opponent with a right-left combination one minute into round nine. Soto, his face a crimson mask, held on desperately to finish the fight to give LeDoux a split victory." Post fight comments- "It's a god-damned disgrace. You never gave a fighter of mine a decision in your life. How could you score a fight like that when a guy like Artie Aidala has it 7-3? It wasn't even close." -Gil Clancy, Soto's manager, charging Johnny Lobianco with bias towards his fighters. That guy must be crazy! I had it 7-3. It's ridiculous." -Judge Artie Aidala, referencing judge Sam Irom's scorecard. "The New York judges showed me a lot of class. Soto is from new York and it was a close fight and the judges gave it to me. It takes a lot of class to do something like that." -Scott LeDoux.
