HISTORY: Rocky Marciano (born Rocco Francis Marchegiano; September 1, 1923 – August 31, 1969) was an American professional boxer and the World Heavyweight Champion from September 23, 1952, to April 27, 1956. Marciano is the only champion to hold the heavyweight title and go untied and undefeated throughout his career. Marciano defended his title six times. FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an original, color tinted, large format photograph of Rocky Marciano in full, fight pose. Mounted on heavy board. Photograph was made in 1952 to celebrate Marciano's victory over Jersey Joe Walcott on September 23, 1952 to win the heavyweight title. In hand the words are added at lower right "Over Joe Walcott Retired Apr. 27 1956." On back a brief biography has been attached. Bold color and print. Bold, clear image. Some soiling on back. Front is clean. Not creased or torn. 18 1/4" x 28." Exceedingly rare, the only we have seen or offered.
