HISTORY: On December 3, 1970 at the War Memorial in Syracuse, New York welterweight champion Jose Napoles defended his title against local hero Billy Backus. Backus stopped Napoles in the 4th round to win the title. A bad cut over Napoles left eye forced the stoppage. Napoles was also cut over the right eye. 

Offered here is an original, souvenir lighter made up for this event. From the collection of boxing promoter Norman Rothschild.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an original, souvenir lighter made up for this event.  Gold color ZIPPO lighter which is engraved, 12-3-1970 NAPOLES VS BACKUS. Needs flint, but in working order. 1 1/2" x 2 1/4." Rare, the only we have seen. From the collection of boxing promoter Norman Rothschild.
