HISTORY: On March 20, 1976 at Wembley in London, England WBC world welterweight champion John Stracey defended his title against Hedgemon Lewis. Stracey prevailed stopping Lewis in the 10th round. "John Stracey of Britain retained his world welterweight championship Saturday night when referee Harry Gibbs stepped in and prevented him from dealing out further punishment to challenger Hedgemon Lewis of Los Angeles at 2:00 into the 10th round. The 30 year old American posed plenty of problems for the champion in the early rounds, but in the 6th Stracey switched his attack to the body and Lewis was saved by the bell. Lewis was under fire in the 7th and rallied in the 8th, but it was his final shot. Stracey was all over Lewis in the 9th and in the 10th, a cluster of lefts and rights stopped Lewis short in mid-ring. Stracey was throwing punches from all angles when Gibbs separated them." - United Press International.
