The year 1979 was a big year in the life of Sugar Ray Leonard. Leonard fought nine times that year culminating with his win over Wilfred Benitez on November 30, 1979 to win his first world title as welterweight champion. Leonard fought in Nevada five times in 1979 posting wins over Adolfo Viruet, Tony Chiaverini, Pete Ranzany, Andy Price and of course Wilfred Benitez. Offered here is the original boxing license issued to Sugar Ray Leonard for the year January 1, 1979 and ending December 31, 1979 ad used for these five fights.

Signed by Commission Executive Secretary Roy Tennison. Edge and corner wear. Crease along left border. Generally clean. 2 1/4" x 4." Extremely rare boxing license for one of the sports all time greats.
