Joe Louis was born on May 13, 1914 in Lafayette, Alabama. On June 22, 1937 he won the World Heavyweight Title from James J. Braddock. He retired after losing to Rocky Marciano on October 26, 1951. His final record was 63-3. Offered here is a wire photo, dated August 8, 1936 depicting Louis preparing for his upcoming fight with former champion Jack Sharkey.
