On June 25, 1952 at Yankee Stadium in New York light heavyweight champion Joey Maxim defended his title against middleweight champion Sugar Ray Robinson. It was a brutally hot night and the heat took its toll. Robinson, ahaed on three judges scorecards, retired on his stool after the 13th round unable to continue further. Referee Goldstein was overcome by the 104 degree heat and had to be replaced by Ray Miller in Round 10. Robinson retired on his stool after Round 13, suffering from heat prostration. Offered here is an original wire photo showing Robinson down for a count of one in the 13th round after missing a right hand.
