Regular price $185.00
In 1917 following a death in the ring, abuses and bribe accusations the New York State Legislature repealed the Frawley Act which had legalized boxing in the state. From the time it was outlawed proponents worked to get boxing reinstated. State Senator, and later New York City mayor, Jimmy Walker introduced the Walker Law which was passed in 1920 with no opposition from Governor Al Smith legalizing boxing in New York again. Offered here is a souvenir pin for Al Smith declaring "GAVE US BOXING," a clear reference to the passage of the 1920 law.
This is a metallic, souvenir pin picturing Al Smith with his name and GAVE US BOXING printed on the perimeter. Pin firmly attached to back. Bold color and print and bold, clear image. No dents. Small nick on top border otherwise fine. Clean front and back. 3/4" diameter. Rare, the first we have seen.
