On April 25, 1966 at Madison Square Garden in New York world middleweight champion Dick Tiger defended his title against world welterweight champion Emile Griffith. Griffith prevailed winning the middleweight title by unanimous 15 round decision. Tiger was an 8-5 favorite. A crowd of 14,934 produced a gate of $147,536. Griffith floored Tiger in round nine. It was the first knockdown of Tiger's career. Judge Castellano's scorecard was 7-7-1 in rounds but went to supplemental scoring. The decision was roundly booed. 17 out of 22 sportswriters thought Tiger won the fight. Offered here is a wire photo which depicts the two fighters weighing in for the fight.
