Sam Langford began his professional boxing career on January 13, 1902 with a 3 round victory over Jack McVicker. Known as "The Boston Tar Baby," Langford had one of the best records in boxing for a man denied a shot at a world title. He amassed victories over Joe Jeanette, Young Peter Jackson, Jim Flynn, Harry Wills, Dixie Kid, Philadelphia Jack O'Brien, Sam McVey, Gunboat Smith, and Kid Norfolk. He retired after stopping Fireman Jim Flynn in 3 rounds on October 19, 1923. Presented here is an original, wire photo of Sam Langford in 1935 in a neurological hospital after having his sight restored.
This is an International Wire Photo showing Langford in the hospital after having his sight restored. Dated April 26, 1935. Wire service stamp and original caption on the reverse. 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" with a good sharp image. Some edge wear and a little wavy from age. No creases, rips or tears.
