On June 18, 1936 (delayed one day at Yankee Stadium in New York, Joe Louis fought German heavyweight Max Schmeling in what turned out to be an historic main event. Louis entered the ring undefeated, but the veteran Schmeling saw a flaw in his style, exploited it and knocked Louis out in the 12th round. Ring Magazine named this Fight Of The Year. Offered here is an original wire photo depicting Joe Louis with some children after playing a round of golf on May 3, 1936 as he prepared for training camp for this fight.
This is an original ACME Newspictures wire photo with their stamp and caption on the back. Bold, clear image. Clean front and back. Not creased, but does have a compression at lower center border. Edge wear. 7" x 9."
