Sam McVea was born on May 17, 1884 in Texas. He began his career on April 12, 1902 with a knockout win over George Sullivan. He fought as a heavyweight during the early 1900's. During his career he fought Sam Langford, Harry Wills, Arthur Pelkey and Joe Jeannette among others. His last fight was a draw with Jeff Clark on August 2, 1921 finishing his career with a record of 65-16-12. McVea died on December 23, 1921 at the age of 37. Offered here is a very rare real photo postcard of Sam McVea in full fight pose as he looked at the height of his career which he has boldly signed in ink.

Signed in ink, "Sam McVea. Slight ink run, not detracting from clarity of signature. Bold, clear image. Clean front and back with no staining. 3 5/8" x 5 1/2." Exceedingly rare autograph on any photo.
