HISTORY: On June 22, 2002 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas WBC Featherweight champion Erik Morales defended his title against Marco Antonio Barrera. Barrera prevailed winning a unanimous 12 round decision and the title. With the loss, Morales' WBC featherweight title becomes vacant. (Barrera didn't accept the WBC title)
Barrera wins the vacant Ring Magazine Featherweight championship of the world.
The fight was originally scheduled for March 2, 2002 but was moved back due to a Barrera rib injury. HBO commentator Harold Lederman scored the fight 115-113 for Morales. Also on the show future world champion Miguel Cotto stopped Justin Juuko in the 5th round. Offered here is an original, official program for this event.
