On March 11, 1949 at Madison Square Garden in New York middleweights Steve Belloise and J.T. Ross squared off in an important division match. Belloise made easy work of Ross, the tallest fighter in the division at 6'1", knocking him down in the 2nd round en route to stopping him in the 5th.
